This year, a walking blog about one of the 22 national parks will appear on the Wandelnet site every month. The walking blog in June is about Schiermonnikoog National Park. Due to its unique nature, almost the entire island has national park status. Untamed landscapes with salt marshes, dunes, beaches, and forests. Schiermonnikoog has it all. The island is especially known for its many species of birds, including spoonbills.
The editor sets out with forest ranger Marijke Barhorst. They take a look at the dike on the south side, the beach on the west side, the Westerplas, and the Hertenbos Valley. Along the way, they see bird species such as the avocet, harrier, and the cuckoo. But also characteristic plant species such as sea lavender and sea wormwood.
