In Amersfoort, the practical workbook Transition Areas in Transition was presented on Tuesday, May 26. This workbook contains a concrete approach to collaborating with area partners in transition areas around Natura 2000 sites. The presentation took place during the symposium Working Together in Transition Areas, organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations along with partners such as Wing partner in space and development, H+N+S Landscape Architects, and the National Parks Bureau.
The practical workbook builds on the previously published Guide to Transition Areas and offers a concrete step-by-step plan for area development around Natura 2000 areas. National parks can play an important role as catalysts for these area processes, where complex issues surrounding nature, water, climate, and land use are integrally addressed through informal cooperation.
Experiences from national parks
The workbook is developed based on experiences from three practice areas, including National Park De Meinweg and National Park Hollandse Duinen. The lessons from these areas demonstrate how cooperation between governments, land managers, and local partners can contribute to a sustainable design of transition areas.
