On May 26, the National Parks Bureau (NBP) organized an online knowledge session on the theme of governance. The central focus was the governance model of Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. Sandra Verweij, the administrative secretary of the park, explained the model.

Governance Models

Governance is the way an organization is managed and the control of power within that organization. The governance models of National Parks vary significantly; each model has its advantages and disadvantages. The most important thing is that the model fits the ambition and collaborative culture of the national park.

Heuvelrug Consultation

In Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park, the owners of nature areas, the province of Utrecht, and municipalities in and around the Utrechtse Heuvelrug collaborate with other organizations and area partners on the protection and development of nature, landscape, and heritage. The governance model of Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park includes a Foundation and a director-manager, overseen by an independent Supervisory Board. The Heuvelrug Consultation is the administrative consultation of partners that establishes the long-term cooperation agenda. This consultation has existed since 2022. The partners in the area, including a large number of private landowners, are satisfied. You can find the presentation about governance at Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park here.
