In 2026, the National Parks Agency and Wandelnet will collaborate on a series of monthly blog posts about hiking in Dutch national parks. Each month, a different national park will be featured. This month, Wandelnet ventures out in De Peel National Park with forest ranger Stéphanie van Eeuwijk.

The Peel consists of a varied landscape of water, marshes, heathland, and forests. An important task is combating dehydration and restoring raised bogs. Sphagnum moss plays an important role in this: it can absorb and retain large amounts of water. This way, the area functions as a natural sponge in both wet and dry times.

Hiking through The Peel

There is also much to discover for hikers. From various gateways, marked routes run through the area. Those who want to go on a longer trip can choose, among others, a circular walk through De Groote Peel, the Dwars door Brabantpad, or one of the public transport walkers through Mariapeel.
