This year, Wandelnet provides a monthly blog about walking opportunities in one of the 22 national parks in our country. The July blog is about National Park Zuid-Kennemerland, which stretches from Zandvoort to IJmuiden. The diverse dune area boasts a rich nature. No less than 40% of all plant and animal species found in the Netherlands can be found here.
The editor walked with ranger Mirjam Passchier from the Visitor Center De Kennemerduinen on the blue circular walk from Koevlak of about 9 kilometers. The route goes over several dune ridges and includes quite a few stretches of loose sand. You also pass some dune lakes, including the Vogelmeer where Highland cattle seek cooling and dozens of cormorants rest.
With the great variety of landscapes, there are plenty of varied walks to be found in the national park. In total, there are as many as 91 kilometers of hiking trails. You can follow one of the signposted routes or plot your own route using a map. Or go for the podwalk that leads you from the visitor center to the beach.
