Gijs de Kruif is stepping down as chairman of the Cooperation for National Parks (SNP). He has been nominated as the new provincial executive for the province of Utrecht. The Provincial States will vote on this on March 18. If approved, he can start as a provincial executive with the portfolio of Rural Area Transition, Nature and Agriculture, Green Growth, and Europe.

Gijs has been chairman of the SNP since 2024. He did this from his position as chairman of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. In the SNP, Dutch national parks work together to make the parks special and attractive nature areas. The SNP thanks Gijs for his commitment to the national parks. He found it important to connect the individual parks more strongly with each other and was also able to consistently highlight the common interest. National parks are not only the most characteristic natural areas of our country but also collaborations in which different parties effectively tackle challenges in rural areas together.

The procedure for recruiting a new SNP chairman will be initiated shortly. In the meantime, the executive board is taking the necessary steps to temporarily manage the unexpected departure.
