The first three Farm Gates have been installed in Van Gogh National Park. Farm Gates make it easier to walk from residential areas into farmland and visit local farm shops. The initiative connects recreation, agriculture, and landscape and could possibly be applied in other areas of national parks as well.
The gates provide easy access to the countryside and connect walking paths, hedges, and agricultural businesses with a public function. Van Gogh National Park is exploring with ZLTO and others how the concept can be applied elsewhere. This fall, follow-up steps will be explored with Collectief Natuurinclusief, the National Parks Bureau, and Brabant Partners.
Relieve vulnerable nature
With this, Van Gogh National Park aims to make farmland more accessible for residents and tourists. At the same time, farms and local products become more visible. Walking across the farmland can also help spread recreation over the area more evenly and reduce pressure on vulnerable natural areas.
Connecting nature, agriculture, and recreation
De Boerenpoort fits with the area-focused approach of Van Gogh National Park, where nature, agriculture, recreation, and living environment are interconnected. The initiative also gives landscape elements like hedges and walking paths a broader societal function. The first Boerenpoort is included in Wandelstarter.
