The Cooperative National Parks (SNP) is very pleased that the Cabinet is reversing its announced cut of 5 million euros per year to the national parks until 2030. The parks can now fully focus on implementing the National Parks Policy Program 2024-2030.
This policy outlines how park organizations, provinces, the national government, and partners intend to develop national parks into robust, high-quality nature and landscape areas in the coming years.
The reversal of the budget cut means, among other things, that collaborations with farmers and recreation entrepreneurs, zoning policies for dispersing visitors, education and communication activities, as well as research programs can continue.
Thanks go to the parties Volt, Groen Links/PVDA, PvdD, D66, Cu, SP, CDA who guided the Cabinet with an amendment that received support from the PVV, FVD, and JA21, and not to forget the more than 34,000 signatories of the petition Save Our National Parks and the many socially involved organizations and individuals who have worked to reverse the announced cuts in recent times.
The connecting role of National Parks in the adequate and integrated approach to the challenges around nature restoration, water, biodiversity, and broad prosperity has now proven itself in several places. National Parks, together with their partners, continue to work with full commitment on coalitions, working methods, revenue models, communication, and education. They play an important role in bringing together nature, agriculture, housing, recreation, and tourism.
