The dynamic Texel landscape of the Slufter cannot be tamed! Several attempts to reclaim this salt marsh area failed due to the power of the water. This results in a fantastic nature reserve where you can fully experience wind, water, and tides. And don't forget to bring your binoculars, because alongside the plant splendor, it is also a paradise for bird watchers. Eager to discover this salty world?

Being Completely Alone

Where the North Sea flows into the dunes, the salty sea air tickles your nose, and the wind makes your hair dance. In the Slufter nature reserve, there is all the space you need to retreat and be alone for a while. And although no day is the same here, nature knows how to bring you peace in every situation.

There are several walking paths through the area that you can download via an app. These routes lead you past salt-tolerant plants such as sea lavender, glasswort, and sea beet and bring you to a viewpoint where you can spot the avocet, skylark, eider, and shelduck. A large part of the Slufter is for the birds only, but the southern part is freely accessible. People with disabilities and children can also go on an adventure, as there are special facilities for them.
