National Park Weerribben-Wieden has developed a new educational package that introduces toddlers to the special animals in their own environment. The 'Big Activity Box' contains a storybook, coloring pages, a puzzle, and a memory game. The initiative shows how national parks can also engage the youngest audience with nature.

The Big Activity Box is developed for preschools and childcare centers in and around the national park. The materials not only stimulate interest in nature but also contribute to the language, math, social, and motor skills development of young children.

Pedagogical staff can use the materials individually or combine them for a complete theme week. From reading aloud and doing puzzles to mimicking animal movements, crafting with natural materials, and going on excursions.

Developed with childcare

The package was created in collaboration with Partou childcare De Vesting in Steenwijk and De Kindervilla in Oldemarkt. They tested activities and contributed ideas for the content. The Big Activity Box is available for loan through the libraries in Steenwijkerland and Zwartewaterland. With this, National Park Weerribben-Wieden expands its existing educational offerings for primary school students, youth nature clubs, and junior rangers to the very youngest target group.
